Contemporary American - Rancho Pinot Grill

Chrysa and Tom Kaufman call their cuisine urban rustic. And since its opening in early '94 (at a Phoenix location, moving to Scottsdale in late '94) it's been stuffed with diners seeking the latest stylish sustenance. It's Mediterranean-inspired food in a setting of Western doodads C.M. Russell-like prints, rodeo photos, ceramic plates emblazoned with cattle brands and even a steer skull tacked to the wall. The food is consistently terrific and the innovative handiwork of its chef, Chrysa Kaufman. Tom is the waiter/wine expert. The menu changes often, depending upon what's available fresh. While the temptation may be to pass on dessert, don't. If stuffed, pack up a piece and cart it home.
